CARITAS questions timing of 'P24.7 billon Yolanda funds' release

Caritas Philippines Executive Secretary Fr. Edu Gariguez scrutinized the timing of the release of P24.7-billion funds for Yolanda victims amid the election period. 

Gariguez communicated his worry that the fund would be utilized to advance the political enthusiasm of an aspirant, in a meeting over chapel upheld radio station, Radyo Veritas that is posted on its Facebook account. 

He was alluding to the P24.7 billion discharged by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the victims of Yolanda in Eastern Visayas. 

In a public statement, Budget Secretary Butch Abad had said that the sum was appropriated in the 2016 General Appropriations Act that structures part of the aggregate P3-trillion national spending plan during the current year. 

It can be reviewed that the storm hit the nation in November 2013 when around 6,000 died with expense of harm evaluated at $2.86 billion.
