“The MPD wants him dead or alive. We want him,” said MPD director Senior Supt. Joel Coronel. He also said that Tanto was given until 5 p.m. yesterday to surrender. However, he didn’t show up. Coronel then decided to order a manhunt.
The MPD considered Tanto “armed and extremely dangerous”, which means that the police must take extra precaution and, if necessary, use deadly force.
When caught, Tanto would be charged with murder and frustrated murder. He was caught on CCTV shooting Geralde after they exchanged punches along P. Casal street in Quiapo at 9:30 p.m. on Monday.
The shooting incident had another casualty, 18-year old Rocel Bondoc who was hit by a stray bullet. Currently, she’s in a critical condition at Mary Chiles Hospital.
According to the records from the MPD’s investigation unit, Tanto was a resident of Fraternal corner Arlegui streets in Quiapo, Manila. Coronal said he was not seen at the vicinity of since lunchtime yesterday.
Moreover, Tanto was a native of Cotabato City and is engaged in buy-and-sell business. He was using a red Hyundai Eon car with the conduction sticker MO-3745. He was “positively identified by witnesses in the area.”
Coronel also disclosed that Tanto owns a licensed calibre. 45 pistol and a calibre .40 Glock pistol. “We will compare (the firearms) with the empty shells recovered from the crime scene to establish and strengthen our physical evidence against the suspect,” he added.
Military units have been ordered to join the manhunt.
“Tanto is a reservist of the Philippine Army with the rank of private. He is assigned with the 1301st Community Defense Center National Capital Region Regional Community Defense Group of the Army Reserve Command based in Caloocan,” said Army Chief Lt. Gen. Eduardo Año. | ASCS - FNPH
