On Monday, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno confirmed that the Duterte administration will augment the salaries of soldiers, policemen and other uniformed services by 2017.

"P39.59 billion is for salary increase of MUP [or] military and uniformed personnel. It's subject to clearance by the President,"  Diokno said.

He added that there is no budget for that this year.

Diokno said that the Executive Order 201 or the order to modify salaries of civilian government personnel and add benefits for both civilian and military personnel, implemented by former President Noynoy Aquino will be continued by Duterte after it is passed to the Congress.

"Our preference is for Congress is to adopt it as a joint resolution," he said.

Diokno said funding for the salary increase of civilian workers has been built into the respective office budgets, while P39 billion has been allocated in the budget for the uniformed services.

But in the P3.3-trillion proposed national budget for 2017, P39.59 billion is earmarked for the incremental salary increase for military and uniformed personnel. MJM
