The Palace on Thursday said that the criticized New Bilibid Prison Drug Matrix went through “thorough validation” before it was released to the public.

Furthermore, they said that President Duterte refused to show the matrix to the public “until all the persons listed there have been confirmed to be involved in the country’s drug problem.”

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar disclosed that the names of Senator Leila de Lima, Pangasinan 5th District Representative Amado Espino Jr, and others were included in the matrix because of the intel they received from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDAE) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Andanar said that the President wouldn’t have mentioned her (de Lima) name if he didn’t have evidence to back up his claim. He also have assurance that the personalities involved in the matrix “are given the chance to submit their counter affidavits indicating that they have no involvement in whatsoever capacity in the illegal drug trade.”

De Lima and Espino have both denied the accusations, saying that they fought illegal drugs in their own respective capacities. ASCS
