After the beheading of a 19-year old hostage on Wednesday because of failure to raise a P1-million ransom, President Duterte ordered fresh troops to be deployed to Sulu to “seek out and destroy” the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).

“My orders to the police and to the armed forces… seek out (all enemies of the state). Seek them out in their lairs… and destroy them. Ang mga droga, destroy them. And mga Abu Sayyaf, destroy them. Period.” The President said.

On Ausgust 24 at about 3 pm, ASG bandits led by Muamar Askali beheaded Patrick Jhames Almodavar, 19, after their demand of P1 million as ransom was not met. Almodavar’s decapitated head was found four hours later in Barangay Kadjatan, thrown by three men riding in a motorcycle.

Almodavar was abducted by the Ajang-ajang group last July 16, 2016 but he was later turned over to the ASG who then demanded a P1-million ransom for his safe release.

However, his family was only able to raise P100,000 but they appealed to the government for help. Things didn’t turn out so well, as Almodavar still suffered in the hands of the ASG.

Currently, the people of Sulu are appealing to the police and the military to put an end to the ASG and to bring back the normalcy to their province.

The number of troops was not disclosed but according Tan assures that “it’s big”. ASCS
