“At the rate our law enforcement agencies are going in their anti-drugs operations, a drug-free Philippines has now become a possibility,” Lacson said.
Lacson, who was the former head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), issued the statement when asked on his reaction on the six drug suspects killed during a police operation at a family compound of arrested Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.
He added that the law enforcers deserve to be presumed performing their duties with regularity.
“They should not be unduly accused of violating due process without basis,” he said.
In a report, Lacson said the alarming rise of numbers of vigilante killings is what worrying him. In one month, there are more than 200 cases of salvaging and summary executions by vigilantes.

“I implore the PNP to conduct appropriate investigations in relation to these killings,” he said.
“Having said that, the police must show that they are not tolerating the vigilantes by building up evidence and charging the suspects in court,” Lacson added.
The Senate committee on justice headed by Senator Leila de Lima is set to investigate the spate of killings in the country.
Rewards for successful anti-drug operationsThe Dangerous Drugs Board board members (DDB) yesterday approved the guidelines in the implementation of Operation Lawmen, a program of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) which will provide incentives to law enforcers or members of teams involved in the seizure of illegal drugs.
DDB chairman Felipe Rojas Jr said the incentives are seen to encourage law enforcement agencies to heighten operations against illegal drugs.
The program seeks to be inclined with the directive of President Rodrigo R. Duterte on the anti-drug campaign.
Under the board regulation, the incentive amount to be offered to law enforcers will be determined based on the quantity of illegal drugs seized, but should not exceed P2 million per operation.
For instance, the confiscation of less than 200 grams of shabu, cocaine, heroin, and ketamine will be worth a minimum of P1,000 plus P100/g in excess of 1 g. AJRSP
