27 local government officials who are allegedly involved in illegal drug trade were given the chance to air their side or clear their names if they do not want to be sanctioned. They were not given ultimatum, but are expected to respond promptly.
Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. has already surrendered to PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa, after the President issued a “shoot-on-sight” order against him and his son if they fail to surrender themselves or if they resist arrest.
The names of the 27 execs have yet to be publicly identified by the President but Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that they are expecting the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to give “appropriate response”.
Unlike the five generals, these local officials would be contacted, given a chance to clear their names, or choose to personally go to the President.
“The process has begun. In other words, they will be contacted, they will be addressed, and they should respond accordingly… we will just wait for them to respond,” Abella said.
Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo refused to give more details about the local officials, aside from that they came from the provinces and some are even prominent. ASCS
