During a press briefing in Pennsylvania on August 6 (August 7 in Manila),  Vice President Leni Robredo called on to the public to be more vocal against the rising death toll brought about by extrajudicial killings in the country.

She shared this sentiment during the 12th National Empowerment Conference of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations.

It was not the first time Robredo spoke out against extrajudicial killings. “There have been a few voices already out there against extrajudicial killings, but I think that public outcry is not there yet. I think all of us should do our share in making sure that this has to stop,” she said in her speech.

She also urged the public to end the “culture of hatred”.

“There is already a pervading culture of impunity, and not only that, but if you look at social media, it also seems like there is a culture of hatred already.” She thinks that this started during the campaign period.

“Parang there is a global phenomenon right now that there is really a culture of hatred going around, but we should not feel helpless,” the VP expressed, saying that the Filipinos were not like this before. ASCS
