The SC was quick to act on the President’s public announcement of his narco-officials list, which was then tagged by Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno as “premature” and would risk the safety and duties in the judiciary.
According to SC spokesman Theodore Te, it has been decided that a fact-finding investigation would be initiated for the four judges. The justices would also treat Duterte’s announcement as a complaint against them.

The four judges, upon the receipt of notice, will then be required to submit their response within seven days.
Te also disclosed the designation of (ret.) SC Associate Justice Roberto Abad as the investigator. Abad is expected to conduct the probe in 30 days from submission of the answers from the four judges.
Despite the media attention, Te insisted that it will be a “standard investigation” and that clarified hearings would not be open to the public. This is in accordance with the confidentiality rule for administrative cases filed with the SC.
“The Chief Justice really wanted an investigation, consistent with her stance that the Court must deal with offenders in the judiciary firmly but fairy,” a member of the Court said. ASCS
